„2014 we will kick off Zappanale #25! We are happy! Now it's time for rehearsal...“ That's what you can read on their homepage, and they are keeping quiet about the fact that they have made THE kick off for the very first Zappanale in 1990. Back then they were standing in the monastery ruin on a trailer of a tractor, rocking some 50 to 60 freaks. ACE 9 the day before yesterday… … in the garage … inevitable for rock bands: founding the band in a basement garage in autumn 1989 … because of several gigs one is getting reputation to be always good for a positive musical surpise when playing live ... ACE 9 at the beginng … Harald Koob (guitar, vocals), Michael Schuppler (bass), Jürgen Theis (drums, vocals), Stefan Wolf (guitar) After the first official gig at the Zappa event „Get Zapped” on January 13, 1990 in Essen they were put - give or take by accident - they were pegged as Zappa cover band. Followed by several similar concerts ..... as Zappanale #1 in Bad Doberan as the only band, or at Zappanale #2 in Stralsund in 1991, together with the “Muffin Men” from Liverpool. But finally they were working more and more at own songs... Yesterday… „Hey Boys! It's been for years now that we have to listen to the same old good music, because there's nothing else coming after!” stated Mr. Recknagel, singer, lyricist, inspirator, ... 2 years after my uncle gave me plastic drums for my third birthday (if you believe in family stories he did this to get even with my dad who had a similar present for my cousin) I got a real drum kit and piano lessons.
